Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

The TEAS is a requirement for all applicants to the basic licensure nursing  program.  Registered nurses in the completion track are not required to take the TEAS.  Clayton State administers computerized TEAS 4.0 on first attempt and TEAS 3.0 on second attempt.

Preparation

The TEAS is a crucial component in your nursing application. Therefore, you should prepare thoroughly for the exam. While study guides are available at most bookstores, Clayton State strongly encourages applicants to utilize a combination of study guide and online practice assessment which is available through the publisher's website at Assessment Technology Institute.

The Center for Academic Success offers one-hour TEAS preparation workshops that concentrate on strategies for success. Students can register for upcoming workshops through TutorTrac.

Registration

Contact the Testing Center located on the first floor of the Library Building or call 678-466-4495. A non-refundable fee of $50.00 is due at time of testing. Payment will be accepted in the form of cash or money order. Checks, credit card and debit card will not be accepted.

Two attempts per application period are permitted with a 21-day interval between attempts. Applicants who feel unwell on test date are strongly recommended to reschedule (if you leave before completion, it will count as one attempt). 

The TEAS is only offered at certain times of the year to correspond with the application period for the basic licensure program.

Instructions

Prior to sitting for TEAS at Clayton State; carefully read detailed student instructions.  It will save you valuable time the day of testing.


Location

Report to the Testing Center located on the first floor of the Library.  Arrive twenty-minutes early for check-in.  Late arrivals will not be permitted.  For entry, you must bring a photo ID (Laker card or drivers license). Calculators, cell phones and all other electronic or text devices are prohibited.  Food, drinks, or other people (including children) may not be brought inside the testing room.


Results

You will receive an official grade report immediately upon completion and a copy will be sent to Clayton State's School of Nursing. Additional copies are available through Assessment Technologies Institute.

The School of Nursing evaluates TEAS results with other critical components in a competitive admission process. Minimum passing scores are national average at time of testing to include overall, reading, math, science and English scores.

Students who have taken TEAS 4.0 or 3.0 at another institution within the past year may contact Assessment Technologies Institute to have official results sent to Clayton State.  TEAS 2.0 or 1.0 results will not be accepted.
