Graduation

Students in both tracks of the BSN program should contact the School of Nursing to apply for graduation. The Registrar's Office determines graduation application deadlines but, to ensure adequate review and response time, nursing students are encouraged to apply one year in advance of anticipated graduation semester.

  • Students are responsible for submitting an application for graduation no later than the two semesters prior to the semester in which graduation is planned. Materials are available in the School of Nursing. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor for assistance in completing this documentation.
  • Clayton State University graduation policies require a student to complete at least 30 semester credit hours at Clayton State University with no fewer than 25 of the 30 hours taken in upper division nursing courses in order to qualify as a candidate for the baccalaureate degree. Block credit (i.e. NURS 3000 awarded to RNs) and credit by examination do not satisfy this requirement.
  • Clayton State University graduation policies require a student to demonstrate computer literacy prior to graduation. Students must demonstrate proficiency with word processing, computer assisted instruction and analysis of data sets. These competencies are assessed throughout the nursing curriculum. Students who have no previous exposure to computers may take a continuing education course to prepare them for the program requirements. Separate course credit is not allocated to develop basic computer literacy.
  • As a member institution of the University System of Georgia, Clayton State University graduation policies require a student to successfully pass the Regents' Test prior to receiving any baccalaureate degree. Students are required to take these tests after earning 30 semester hours of credit and before reaching 60 semester hours of credit. Students who do not complete these tests as required may face a University imposed suspension or be required to complete remedial course work until tests are completed.
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the program curriculum and a 'good' academic standing is required in order to be eligible for graduation.
  • No letter grade lower than 'C' will be applied toward graduation in any Area F course, the transition course Pathophyisiology and all upper division coursework.
  • Students must satisfactorily complete an exit portfolio validating achievement of program outcomes must be submitted in the last clinical course in order to be eligible for graduation. The exit portfolio serves as an end of program evaluation record, is compiled for all graduating seniors and remains on file as part of the permanent record of all graduates.
  • An exit assessment will be administered by the School of Nursing prior to completion of the final clinical course. Students must achieve a passing grade in order to be eligible for graduation.
