Alternative Learning Experiences
- Clayton State University provides online instruction and uses distance learning technologies to facilitate the lessons and activities of coursework and provide students with alternative learning opportunities. Online instruction is delivered by online computer connection via the Internet and may be supplemented by television, video conferencing, or other distance learning methods. Use of this technology allows the University to offer learning experiences that are more convenient for many students. All courses taught via online instruction meet full academic standards. Policies and guidelines for course management, such as attendance, classroom behavior and confidentiality are consistent with those of the traditional classroom environment.
- Clayton State University accepts credit from the University System of Georgia Independent Study academic program that provides a mechanism for the self-directed learner to register at any time for courses with up to a year to complete each course. A Transient Authorization Request form must be submitted prior to enrollment in the independent study. There is a limit of 12 semester hours of independent study that may be applied to the BSN degree.
- Clayton State University students may request authorization to take an equivalent course at another accredited institution. Refer to the Transient Authorization Request form for instructions about this policy. Students must receive authorization prior to enrolling for coursework at another institution. Students will not ordinarily be granted transient authorizations for a single part of a science sequence, nor will transient authorization be given for major-specific required courses.
- Students from other academic institutions wishing to take nursing or health science courses must meet Clayton State University requirements for transient students and must petition the Dean and/or Associate Dean in writing for approval prior to enrollment in these courses. Approval is contingent upon both space availability, after all continuing matriculated students are enrolled, and the appropriateness of the course based on the transient student's past academic/practical history. The responsibility rests with the student to ascertain whether the specific nursing or health science course will satisfy the requirements of the degree-granting institution.
School Closure and Class Cancellation
For complete details on "Inclement Weather" procedures, refer to the Clayton State University Student Handbook.
- If the University is closed, classes and clinical laboratory experiences are not made-up. If the University is closed for part of the day (i.e. 10:00am-12:00pm) then classes scheduled after opening time and evening clinical experiences will be held as scheduled.
- The individual clinical instructor may use discretion to cancel clinical laboratory experiences if the weather threatens travel conditions and the University has not made a decision at that time (closure announcements are made by 6:00am). In the event that the University does not cancel classes, any canceled clinical and/or laboratory experiences must be made-up.
- In the event of snow or icy weather conditions, the student is advised to tune to public broadcast media for school closing announcement.
