Clinical Guidelines

Placement

The faculty of the School of Nursing have adopted policies to regulate clinical agency placement and assignment of students to ensure the student's ability to function in a definitive role as a student in the clinical setting. Students in both tracks of the BSN program are subject to these policies.

Clinical Agency Placement

  • Faculty request clinical areas for student learning experiences on the basis of course and level objectives. Student placements are made on the basis of clinical course objectives and space availability at the host clinical agency.
  • Faculty selection of clinical agency placement may be affected by students who enter the BSN program as a licensed health professional in a related area.

Assignment of Students

  • Faculty determine assignment of students to clinical agencies based on course and level objectives and clinical site availability per semester.
  • Students cannot be guaranteed placement in the clinical agency of their choice.
  • Students will not be assigned to any unit in a clinical agency where they are employed. The student is responsible for disclosing employment status at any health care agency to the faculty member of the course for which he/she is registered prior to or on the first day of class.
  • Students who hold a health related license in the State of Georgia must show this license to a designated faculty member before entry into the program and on the first day of any course involving clinical practice. All health related licenses must be presented to faculty for review on at least an annual basis. If at any time a student's health related license has been limited due to action by a Georgia Board, the license and the consent order must be shown to the faculty for review.
  • Students are obligated to follow the policies and procedures of the host clinical agency as well as the School of Nursing. Failure to adhere to agency policies may lead to removal from the facility.
  • If a student must be removed from a clinical agency, every effort will be made to find appropriate placement at another clinical agency. However, if satisfactory experiences cannot be found, the student may receive an "incomplete", "unsatisfactory" or "withdrawal" depending upon the circumstances leading to removal from the clinical agency.
  • Students are responsible for transportation to and from assigned clinical sites, as well as the associated parking fees.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW CLINICAL POLICIES MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE PROGRAM DISMISSAL!

The School of Nursing reserves the right to administratively withdraw any student who fails to adhere to any clinical course policy.
