Transfer Credit

Basic Licensure Track

Students applying for the Basic Licensure Track may be eligible for consideration of transfer credit beyond core curriculum requirements. The following guidelines apply to the transfer of nursing coursework.

  • All students transferring from other B.S. nursing programs will be required to supply course materials (catalog description, course syllabus, etc.) for any course they have passed and are requesting credit toward advanced placement. Nursing course must have been completed within the previous five years to be considered.
  • The Associate Dean will review the materials to determine overall content and refer to appropriate course coordinator.
  • The course coordinator for the equivalent Clayton State University course will determine whether the content is comparable to the Clayton State University course content and will make one of the following recommendations to the Associate Dean:
    • Give credit for the course without further requirements.
    • Give credit after demonstration of mastery of the content through examination or clinical experience.
    • If content of transfer credit does not satisfy requirement, complete the course at Clayton State University to receive credit.
  • The Admissions and Progression Committee will review a report of the actions of the Associate Dean.
  • The student will apply for admission, and if admitted, be placed in the appropriate courses within the curriculum.
  • A letter will be sent to the student with a copy to the Dean. The Associate Dean and Dean will approve appropriate course substitution and forward to the Registrar.

RN/BSN Completion Track

All registered nurses with valid licensure in the United States will be eligible to receive 28 semester credit hours of nursing based on their license as evidence that they have achieved passing scores on the NCLEX-RN exam. This credit is awarded after successful completion of NURS 3101 - Professional Issues. Clayton State University subscribes to the Georgia Statewide Articulation Model. This means that some students may be required to undertake additional validation before credit is awarded.
