Admission Standards
Advanced Placement
Advance placement opportunities are available for students in both tracks of the BSN program. The Associate Dean and Dean of the nursing program will determine student eligibility based on the outlined requirements and policies.
Basic Licensure Track
- Credit for nursing coursework completed at other institutions will be recognized only upon the recommendation of the nursing faculty. In order for the faculty to consider credit for previous work, the applicant will be expected to submit syllabi, course outlines and the catalog from the institution. Students must submit all required documents along with a course substitution request form to the Associate Dean.
- Licensed practical nurses and other allied health paraprofessionals will not receive credit for courses taken at vocational or technical institutions, unless the institution and/or selected courses have been accredited by the Commission on Colleges.
RN/BSN Completion Track
- RNs who hold current unrestricted licensure in the state of Georgia receive 28 block credit hours and the equivalent of junior level nursing courses in the basic licensure track after successful completion of NURS 3101 – Professional Issues, and a specified number of clinical hours at the senior level.
- RNs who graduated from accredited diploma programs may receive credit for any of the following courses based on 45 contact hours, plus lab where required for science courses: CHEM 1151/1152, BIOL 1151/1152/2250 and PSYC 1101 or SOCI 1101. These RNs may also use ACT-PEP validation to receive credit for BIOL 1151/1152/2250, if the hours of instruction in the requisite courses are below the 45 hours required for credit.
- RNs who are international graduates may validate and receive credit for BIOL 1151/1152/2250 based on ACT-PEP testing if the program is not eligible under the policy stated above for accredited diploma programs. In addition, Clayton State University participates in the CLEP program. Credit for selected courses may be awarded based on satisfactory performance on designated CLEP tests.
