About the Student Navigator: Dr. Lillian Parker serves as the Student Navigator. The Student Navigator is responsible for providing academic assistance, counseling, and community linkages for pre-nursing and nursing students. She also assists in recruiting these students for online versions of our academic enhancement program, Strategies of Success (SOS) I, II and III. She is a full-time African American faculty member who has served as a faculty mentor and academic advisor to minority and disadvantaged nursing students. Student Assistance: During the first project year, the Project Director and Project Coordinator will develop the Student Navigator role to fit the needs of the minority/disadvantaged nursing students attending Clayton State University. She will assist nursing students to identify barriers or stressors that may impede academic achievement and refer students to appropriate resources. The Student Navigator will work with the faculty to identify and track students at risk. The Student Navigator will be linked with a total of 342 nursing students over the three project years. The Project Coordinator of Evaluation will develop an evaluation tool to assess student and faculty’s perceptions of the Student Navigator role. At the end of each project year, the Coordinator of Evaluation will administer the evaluation tool to all nursing students and faculty who have participated in the project. Ms. Lillian Parker can be contacted by email at lillianparker@clayton.edu and by phone at 678.466.4960. More information on other opportunities (mentorship, etc.) with the student navigator coming soon.
